Isa's story

Hi, my name is Isa Heesbeen and I am 18 years old. I love entrepreneurship and have a passion for design. My dream has always been to set up my own business and because of my personal story, I decided to make that dream a reality.

In March 2023 I unexpectedly ended up in hospital. There the doctors told me that I have fibro lamellar cancer, which is a very rare form of liver cancer. Unfortunately this type of cancer cannot be cured and no one knows how long I have left to live. How long I have left to live no one knows. That’s when I decided that now is the time to realise my dream and launch my own company.

ISA-Tabouret

While studying Spatial Design at Sint-Lucs, I come up with many ideas and create a lot. For a project, the prototype for what has now become the ISA-Tabouret was created The reason I used this is because it actually represents something very beautiful. In the hospital, I have been through a lot. Something I will always be grateful for is how the doctors and nurses took care of me. The healthcare staff carried me on their hands and I saw that for myself in the ISA-Tabouret.

It felt right to use this product as the start of Embrace-Studio. A company through which I want to tell that everyone deserves to be embraced, even when life is not going well for a while.

My goal

During the process of setting up Embrace-Studio, I thought it was important that the company also gives something back. I used my own story as inspiration and came up with the idea that with every purchase a contribution will go to the KWF – the Dutch Cancer Society. It is clear to me that I no longer have a future and that is something I would not wish on anyone. I hope that by doing this, more research can be done into treatments and cures which will give other people a chance to follow their dreams.

I have used my own experiences from the hospital to further design the tabouret. When I was in the hospital, I was flooded with flowers and cards. The tabouret can be a beautiful alternative gift for this. It can also be used as a side table on which you can place a bouquet of flowers or a plant. Instead of the whole floor of the room being full of vases. You can make your (hospital) room more personal and store small items in it that are dear to you.

Even though I have an intense personal story, with Embrace-Studio, I want to bring positivity. Because part of the proceeds goes to the KWF - the Dutch Cancer Society, I am contributing to a cancer-free world. That's my mission!
